What is Haelan?
The Haelan Program for Supportive Services at the Norris Cotton Cancer Center was created for our patients and their family caregivers. The word "Haelan" pronounced "hay-lin" means "to make whole or wholeness" in old Gaelic.
As part of the Cancer Center's comprehensive goal to address the needs of the whole person to each patient, the Haelan Program seeks to improve the comfort level and quality of life of individuals going through a cancer diagnosis and treatment.
Family members and close caregivers can also benefit from programs that Haelan offers. Our core services are massage, Reiki, stress reduction classes, healing arts, and helpful, educational seminars. Drop-in chair massage is offered by trained professionals in the outpatient clinic along with Reiki. While waiting for an appointment or staying in our inpatient unit you might hear the soothing tones of harp music played by volunteer Margaret Stephens. Listen to her music online.
All Haelan Program services are offered at little or no cost to patients. We have been gratefully supported for the last two years through the generosity of the Friends of the Norris Cotton Cancer Center and from the donations given by grateful patients and others in our community.
Donations to keep our services available to anyone experiencing the difficulties of cancer are very appreciated.
For more information about our programs or about how you can help, please call Deb Steele, Coordinator of Supportive Services, at 603-650-7750.
