Nursing Overview

Nurses at Norris Cotton Cancer Center attend to the practical, social and emotional needs of patients and their families, often forming long-term relationships. This approach translates into exceptional patient care and a supportive atmosphere within a technologically advanced facility. We believe that oncology offers endless opportunities for continued learning.

Our team comprises both experienced and novice nurses, with 60 percent of our staff certified in oncology nursing. Our Advanced Practice Oncology Nurses hold a Masters Degree, are Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioners (ARNP), or hold other advanced certification. In addition, as part of Dartmouth-Hitchcock, our nursing staff has been awarded Magnet® status by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).

Dartmouth's Norris Cotton Cancer Center is one of the premier facilities for cancer treatment and research nationwide, providing patient services through facilities at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. Norris Cotton Cancer Center is an National Cancer Institute designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, one of a select number in the United States. It provides the link for all cancer-related activity at Dartmouth Medical School, the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Clinic, Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital, and other related medical services.

The Cancer Center treats patients with all forms of cancer in bright and welcoming facilities that create a positive environment for cure and recovery. Patients at the Cancer Center receive the technologically advanced cancer treatments, developed here and in collaboration with scientists throughout the nation. Each patient is seen as an individual, and a specific treatment plan is developed by specialists who work directly with the patient, family, and referring physician. U.S. News and World Report lists the Cancer Center as one of the best cancer treatment hospitals in the country, and its physicians are rated among the best in New Hampshire.
